Top 5 Qualities in Men’s Running Clothing
Running is one of the best ways for men to lose weight, stay in shape, train for a variety of sports, and to keep their hearts healthy through cardiovascular (cardio) exercise.
Having and wearing the right men’s running clothing is essential to make the run enjoyable and productive. The wrong clothing can have the opposite effect and actually stop you from being able to run regularly or for long distances.
The Top 5 Qualities to look for in Men’s Running Clothing are:
1. Flexibility
Being able to move freely without hindrance is one of your top priorities as a runner. The men’s running clothing you wear must be flexible enough to allow your arms and legs to move in every direction with no pain or strain from the clothing. Cotton is fine but any blend that includes stretchy fabrics like nylon and polyester can be even better from a flexibility standpoint.
2. Breathability
If your clothing can’t “breathe” properly, neither will your body. As you run, it is important for your body to be able to self-cool. Obviously, sweating does that but also men’s running clothing that is breathable (well-ventilated) is ideal, as long as the weather allows.
3. Form Fitting
No one expects a guy to run around in skin tight spandex. But sporting some baggy jeans without a belt – regardless of how trendy (or not) or attractive (or not) those baggy jeans may be – is a great way to trip and fall and bust your noggin.
The idea is to find a happy medium when it comes to wearing form fitting clothing. If you have the body for it, tighter shirts are ok but we’re not talking Superman-style skin tight either. Just buy and wear men’s running clothing that fits; simple as that.
4. Appropriate for Proper Temperature
This is one of the most important qualities in the list. Where will you be running? That’s a question to ask when you buy men’s running clothing. If you are going to be indoors at room temperature, you can wear shorts or somewhat thin pants on bottom and a T on top.
If you are going to be outside in warm weather conditions, the same is true. Don’t layer up to try to force yourself to sweat when it is warm. Let your body burn calories from actual effort. Overheating it unnaturally probably is not good for your health.
Now, if the weather will be cool or cold, make sure to dress accordingly. Again, don’t take on the mindset that you will be running and that that will warm you up. If you wear summer clothes in the winter, for example, you’re gonna get sick. A good rule of thumb here is just to dress the way you normally would for the given temperature.
5. Comfortable
When you run, you should be comfortable. While this should go without saying, a surprising number of guys have gone out with the mindset that strain is the best way to train. Not true. If you want to wear ankle or wrist weights made for runners then that’s fine.
Just wear men’s running clothing that fits you nicely and feels nice on your skin. Remember that this isn’t a fashion show. You can dress with style while still feeling comfy when you go for a run. If you feel more comfortable out there, you’re more likely to stick it out and keep going. That results in a better-trained body, more muscle tone and more weight loss.
